Culture + Community = Action
About: A unique meeting of culture and community for theatre-goers, queer people, and allies. Through the queer lens of Alexis Gregory’s play SMOKE and a panel discussion led by You Are Loved’s Marc Svensson, the tour explores themes of mental health, drug addiction, grief, survival, and the power of community.
Date:Â Spring 2026
Location: The tour will visit 8-10 cities across the UK, including London, Manchester, Leeds, Poole, and Norwich.Â
The Partnership
Visiting theatres, each performance of the stripped-back, raw, plot-driven SMOKE (60 mins) will be followed by a YAL panel discussion focused on the role community play in preventing deaths from suicide and drugs amongst gay, bi and queer men (45 mins) hosted by YAL founder Marc Svensson. The second part of the evening will start with a post-show Q&A with Alexis and director Campbell on SMOKE and the themes it shares with the mission of YAL. Representatives from local queer organisations will then be invited to an informal and intimate conversation on the stage, with questions and comments from the audience being encouraged and welcome.
About SMOKE:Â
SMOKE is a hard-hitting, savagely funny, LGBTQ+ solo theatre piece from leading queer theatre-maker Alexis Gregory, whose critically acclaimed audience favourite solo piece ‘Riot Act’ toured the UK four times visiting the country’s leading theatres. Alexis’s work has been performed in the West End, across London and the UK, translated for international performance, and adapted for ‘digital theatre’ online.
